“咖啡巨人”星巴克正面临麦当劳来势汹汹的攻势。

从“咖啡成为水以外最受欢迎饮料”的欧美市场,到中国这样处在培育期的咖啡市场,麦当劳的咖啡无处不在挑战星巴克在咖啡领域的权威。而且让星巴克紧张的是:麦当劳一些店面出人意料地开始了“咖啡吧”建设——在麦当劳内开设麦咖啡独立店。而“快餐巨人”的咖啡,价位自然比星巴克要低。

例如星巴克公司以及一些商业人士所认为的:麦当劳并不构成对星巴克的挑战,因为星巴克竞争力的关键在于“星巴克体验”,这不是平价咖啡所能挑战的。

但问题是,现在的星巴克还高端吗?

目前的星巴克已经出现了上市16年以来的首次亏损,甚至2008年全年的净利润仅为3.155亿美元,相比2007年下滑了53%。一步步陷入泥沼的主要原因,就在于星巴克的平民化!

星巴克董事长舒尔茨也承认,从1000家店到13000家的无度扩张,导致了“星巴克体验”的平淡化和品牌商品化,削弱了星巴克的品牌及品位。

理想化的星巴克卖的不是咖啡,而是其特有的氛围和体验,但平民化的星巴克在不断降低姿态:低价系列餐点、速溶咖啡、“经济套餐”、普通咖啡等等,不断出现在星巴克的餐桌上,一些店面里,来星巴克的人群也在发生悄然变化。

而目前麦当劳咖啡的借势,与其理解成对星巴克的“侵略”,不如理解为推动星巴克回归“体验”这一核心价值——星巴克既然在全球面临麦当劳咖啡的挑战,那就得进一步划清与麦当劳咖啡的边界,突出自己的定位。

但是,麦当劳这样的巨人,会不会出现“自己绊自己一跤”的情况?

麦当劳的咖啡到底走向何处?或者说,快餐店里到底需要什么样的咖啡文化?这是破局者必须回答的问题。麦当劳的“快餐”定位,本身是和人们心智之中的咖啡文化相冲突的。接下来,麦当劳要么能够成功营造一种年轻人的“咖啡娱乐”文化,要么一段时间之后,麦当劳仅仅是多了一杯曾经扬言挑战过星巴克的咖啡而已。
